686 is committed to ensuring that animal derived materials used in the products that we sell come from animals that were treated humanely and with respect.
Our policy pertains specifically to the animals from which we derive our down and wool and generally to all animals and animal derived products in our supply chain.
Our policy is to have all animals from which we derive our down and wool allowed the Five Freedoms:
- Freedom from hunger or thirst.
- Freedom from discomfort.
- Freedom from pain, injury or disease.
- Freedom to express most normal behavior.
- Freedom from fear and distress.
At a minimum we have the following requirements and we work with our suppliers and partners to certify that they comply with these requirements:
- Down
- We require that all down and down products supplied to 686 by our suppliers must meet standards that ensure that ducks and geese in the down supply chain are treated humanely and are never live-plucked or force-fed.
- We prefer down that is certified to the Responsible Down Standard or the Traceable Down Standard.
- Wool
- We require that all wool and wool products supplied to 686 by our suppliers must meet standards that ensure that sheep are treated humanely and are not mulesed.
- We prefer wool that is certified to the Responsible Wool Standard.
- Leather
- All products supplied to 686 by our suppliers must not contain exotic leather.
- Acceptable animals for leather include Cows, Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Deer, Bison or Kangaroo.
- All products supplied to 686 by our suppliers must not contain exotic leather.
- Animal Fur
- All products supplied to 686 must not contain animal fur.
