686 Chemicals Management Policy

686 is committed to ensuring that our products are made from well understood chemical inputs and that our products do not include banned chemicals, restricted chemicals or chemicals of concern.

These standards pertain to specific chemicals, specific chemical classes as well as chemicals of concern. We define chemicals of concern as chemicals with these hazard properties:

  1. Carcinogenicity - Cancer-causing
  2. Mutagenicity - Ability to mutate DNA
  3. Reproductive toxicity - Ability to interfere with reproduction or fertility
  4. Persistence in the environment - Inability to breakdown under natural conditions
  5. Bioaccumulation - Ability to accumulate in living tissue

At a minimum we prohibit the following substances:

  • Bisphenol A (BPA)
    • We require that all products supplied to us are free from BPA.
  • Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)
    • We require that all products supplied to us be free from long-chain PFAS.
    • We prefer that all products supplied to use be free from all PFAS.

We also require adherence to our Restricted Substances List (RSL):

    • We require that all products supplied to us conform to our RSL or an equivalent broadly accepted RSL that we have approved.
    • For our RSL we use the bluesign® RSL.

      • Please check there at least annually since the RSL is updated frequently.

We require that all products ship to us are compliant with Prop 65:

  • Prop 65
    • We require that all products ship to us comply with the limits that are set in Prop 65 which can be found here:
      • https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65/proposition-65-list
    • If a product contains any of the chemicals found in Prop 65 you are required to notify us immediately so that we can discuss proper labeling requirements.

In addition to our RSL we work to minimize chemicals used to process our leather:

  • Leather
    • We prefer leather that is certified to the Leather Working Group Standards.
